Anne Pickett - Greeting Card Artisan

   Anne Pickett resides in Windham, NH, but a long way from where she grew up in Santa Barbara, California, then moved to Massachusetts for high school, and then to college at the University of Massachusetts. Although gifted at composition and color, Anne has not been formally trained as an artist, but her inspiration comes from interest in stationery and fine paper products.   For the past three years, Anne has been working on her greeting cards, and the last two has been in business for herself, and has sold about 15,000 greeting cards.  Including Card Connection and NH Greeting Card stores, Anne's cards are represented in 13 client locations, with her record sales month in October 2006, selling over 1,000 cards.  Anne works very hard on the production side, hand-making up to 150 cards per week just to keep up with the demand.  PORTFOLIO   

About her customers, Anne says, “(They) love that the cards are unique and the stock is always fresh because I get new embellishments and papers all the time.  The simplicity of them is appealing and again, having them blank is a huge draw.  I have customers who say they will no longer “go back” to mass produced cards because they always get comments from the recipients when they send one of my cards.”    Anne comments about her own favorite cards she’s made...” I love Easter cards for the colors and wedding cards because of the wide variety of embellishments available.”

And Anne’s biggest sellers are birthday, thank you, wedding, and sympathy cards. She says that her work are “cards that customers want to be a gift unto themselves.  I also sell a lot of truly unique cards such as “congratulations on getting your license”, and “congratulations on your new home”.  Customers also like name options such as “Happy Birthday Nanny” or “Happy Father's Day Papa”.

“I am a single Mom who is proud to show my daughter that with hard work, she can succeed in any endeavor she’s passionate about.  She has gained valuable knowledge of the costs and benefits of running a business, and she’s gotten pretty good at marketing the cards on my behalf!”

When asked why Anne enjoys making cards she says, “greeting cards have been a passion for a long time – I love when someone finds the “perfect card” out of my stock.  It’s still a kick for me when people are willing to pay money for something I’ve created.”

Card size is 5x7 and sell for $6.00 each.
